“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” - Reverend Jeremiah Wright

“God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.” - Reverend Jeremiah Wright

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.” - Reverend Jeremiah Wright

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” - Reverend Jeremiah Wright

“I don’t think my church is actually particularly controversial.” - Sen. Obama

Obviously, this guy is filled with hate and loathing and it is unbecoming of a presidential candidate to associate with him and his congregation. But in a real way, Obama was not understanding the street-level dynamics of the big picture. Many of these Black congregations in the northern urban areas compete with 'Nation of Islam' for their congregants. Jeremiah Wright was occasionally preaching the politics of "National Islam light". To the rest of us, this amounts to "urban heavy". As an Obama supporter, I am pissed off but not quite to the breaking point. I knew all along that various players in Obama's Chicago station were going to emerge as hate-mongers or possibly worse. Anyone who did not realize what type of politics is traditionally propagated in the Chicago sphere, hasn't been paying adequate attention. Chicago was the core of the American Nazi party in the 1930's. Ordinary people would come home from work, put on Nazi uniforms, get on the city bus and go to "bund" rallies, where they would spend a few hours goose-stepping and sig-heiling around gymnasiums.
As an Ironic twist, Harry Truman, (who dropped the fore mentioned A-Bombs on Japan), was installed as sitting V.P., replacing Henry Wallace, through a gimmick in the 1944 Democratic Convention in (where else) Chicago. The Fire marshals called a (false) fire alarm and cleared the convention hall before Wallace could be re-nominated, thereby disqualifying him.
If it turns out that Obama was in the congregations applauding during some of these divisive sermons, then I too will cut bate. Mainly because that would prove Mr. Obama has not been truthful thus far. If I were he, given the gravity of the problem, I would get very upset at the Preacher and blow a gasket or two in public, disavowing, not so much the exact statements but the premises of those statements. Rich whites introduced AIDS into the black community . . et al . . . . Ignant.

The problem Obama faces isn't just the caustic rhetoric of his pastor, but his pastor's tone of voice. And given Obama's long history of association with the church, he will need the most miraculous speech imaginable to salvage his reputation as a healer. It ought to be a no-brainer that if Americans are presented with a choice between corrupt hate-mongering anti-Americanism and corrupt hate-mongering pro-Americanism, the jingoists generally win.

As it is, perhaps "Joy to the World" should be Barack Obama's theme song:

Jeremiah was a bullfrog,
He was a good friend of mine,
I never understood a single word he said,
But I helped him drink his wine.

Oh C'mon. If you have a shred of morality and hold the US government to the same standards as you would the Soviet Union or some other official enemy, you would being saying exactly what this pastor is saying. Get a grip. The US has been stomping around the globe killing and stealing from the beginning. The US ethnically cleansed the entire continent and hasn't looked back. Just what do you think is going on in Iraq. Hello?

Jerry Fresia:
One major problem with these sorts of anti-establishment rants is that every once and a while, the radical opposition takes over and guess what happens then? They become the "establishment" and all the little chirping birdies of discontent become the patriots. The only possible solution to this cycle is to un emotionally analyze each point of reference seperately. One does NOT have to be happy or content with our establishment (status quo) to recognise that many of Pastor Wright's claims are either borderline psychotic or worse, rank propaganda.

If Obama was present during any of Rev. Wrights sermons, he nor is wife was paying attention. Because if he had been listening he would have realized that the good pastor was given him a warning. America is two countries, one of dreams and hopes and one of evil so vile that it is frightning. Because we have let the darkside drive us for so long when someone reminds us of our sins, he becomes a threat. As I write this we have let the current leadership engage in a war that has killed or maimed over a million people and most of us sleep like babies. That is what Obama will be up against, what he wants to change. Pastor Wright said that Jesus was a agent of change, but Jesus also had a backup plan. Since Obama wants to take on the beast, I hope he too has a plan B.

Finally we see why Obama didn't want to make race an issue. Twenty years and you guessed it. He votes "present"

Hey People,

I watched this man, evil wright, this morning at the press Club in DC, and what I saw was the most condescending man treating everything whitey said as if it were a joke..!!! I think he and BHO must have had a, parting of the ways, since he must know that him coming out like this will do nothing but piss off whitey..? This is the stupidest ****** I have seen in many, many years. And since I live in S. CA I have seen ALOT of stupid donkey (democrat) in my time. The black establishment in chicago must have decided that BHO has gotten a "little" bit uppity and therefore, he doesn't need to be president.
Just for that, I think I might vote for BHO, since McCain doesn't need my vote, he is going to be president, unless he dies of a heart attack and Condi becomes president, after he picks her for the V.P...:-)

Condi as vp. The sheer amount of sucking up she'd have to do would make McCain look like charlton Heston on prozac. She would have to disavow her race . the civil rights movement, the right to vote for women and rubber stamp everything the party says , Oh my God she's done all that already.

I happen to like Rev Wright. If the media in the US were free, we would be able to engage Rev Wright fruitfully and not simply condemn him because he isn't articulating the party line.
