Brodner's Cartoon du Jour: I Met the Walrus

July 8, 2008

I Met the Walrus

In 1969 Jerry Levitan, then 14 years old, found his way into John Lennon's room in the King Edward Hotel in Toronto, with a tape recorder. Lennon, patient and generous (traits that would one day, alas, prove expensive), gave him a wonderful interview. Here is the brilliant animated short film made from that tape. Illustrated by James Braithwaite (L), directed by Josh Raskin (R), with Jerry today (my age). This film shows the way for illustration in doc film. A sublime thing indeed. Here's to supporting more such work, and finding our own unique ways to it.
